Astronaut John Glenn used Utah’s Bonneville Salt Flats as a landmark from space, but on earth amateur motorsports enthusiasts have used the blistering hot, flat pancake as a speed laboratory for more than a century. With their handcrafted cars, trucks and motorcycles, thousands of men and women have hosted pageants of power each summer since 1949. Every single one came looking for the answer to the same question: “How fast will to go?” And those efforts have made them the fastest people on earth reaching speeds in excess of 500MPH. On the salt, people find the limits of their courage, they learn what daring greatly is all about, and understand why a Bonneville Salt Flats speed record is an internationally respected pedigree. People who race on the salt flats become a family bound together by speed – a powerful force that erases ethnic, economic, political and religious barriers: They are land speed racers. And this is their story.

The 128 page book with more than 200 images and art, is a chronology from 1914 to 2020 with three specialty chapters each devoted to Women Racers, Motorcycles & Thrust Powered Speed Machines. After 20 years of research, first time in print: EVERY car & motorcycle that ran at the inagural 1914 time trial thanks to illustrator Robert “Steady Hand” Rampton.

Single copies are $27.00 postage paid via media mail to US addresses only.

Oscar. . . .for you? of course! I can personalize it as well if you like. . . .

Hey, any chance you know of a place that has replacement radios for the C6? Mine has parts that have died and now it no longer gives me certain information. I understand there are a variety of antennas and sensors that all have to play nice but there is a fight in the schoolyard and the hillbillies here in Missouri are clueless. It is days like this I dearly miss being in CA and being able to work talented folks like you. . .

Randy – did you get my note about the new book order and why it was refunded? I am not set up for international mailing. The cost to ship the book cost MORE than the book! Didn’t you have a pal just south of the border who takes mail for you? Maybe it was someone else, but that is the only economical way to ship to Canada.

Hi Donna, I got the order and will mail out the book in the next couple of days. I am on the road doing a book signing tour and family visit amid the pandemic — safely, always safely — and only have a few left now. Your note squeaked in! Thank you for purchasing the book. — Louise

Hi Rosemary – Forgive the long delay for this reply. I am on the road and have sporadic web connectivity. If you provide a US address, I will be able to send a book that way. If you want a book sent to the UK, it will cost more than the book. The last two had postage costs of $29. USD. I also know you can order a book (without my signature) through Amazon UK. hope the helps. . . . – Louise

Denise – I sent a note a couple weeks back, this note is an insurance follow-up to make sure you know you can get a book through Amazon UK at a reasonable shipping price – but not with my signature. If I ship one to the UK it is costing $24 to $29. just for the postage! Something I cannot control, or change. Thanks for the interest. – Louise
